After 8 years of classical trumpet training, Dave bought a guitar to punish his ma at the ripe age of 13. He still has that guitar. At 15, Dave met a work associate of his fathers at Sandia National Labratories that just happened be a sound engineering consultant for one of the big touring companies of the day, ShowCo Sound. Soon he was wiring cable harnesses, and going to the great shows of the day like Deep Purple, Grand Funk, Journey, ACDC with Bon Scott... the list goes on and on. Having the bug, he took high school wood shop and built his own 4x12 guitar cabinets, bass cabinets and a full PA system based on Paul W Klipsch designs and set out to be a rock star. Didn't pan out, so he went to engineering school and became a satellite communications engineer.
Fast forward to the Fillmore in San Francisco in 2006. Dave was playing guitar with a band called 3rd Street Coalition and sat in on drums with Aart and Joanne in an EDA band called Full Disclosure at one of the great DAC parties put on by Denali. This started a great friendship with Aart that commenced a blues tone quest that involved searching out some of the great guitars of yesteryear plus Dave built a custom Stratocaster and Les Paul based on a collaboration of ideas. Currently Aart and Dave are trying to unlock the secrets of the great guitar amps of the day. The quest must go on! Legally Blue came together and Dave was their biggest fan. But after a few gigs with less than optimum sound, he could not just sit on the sidelines and suggested to Aart that the band that they should take their destiny into their own hands. The band purchased their own sound system and Dave became the 6th memeber of the band. Here is what Dave has to say about his part of the band. "This band is the real deal. There is a true love of the blues and performing, there is the care and love of classic instruments to squeeze out that last 2% of tone and the chemistry is like one big family. My job is to make that come through." |
